Going Forward

 GOING FORWARD Lost count of the number of days.  What can I say:  busy finishing working at Oromocto, vacation at the cottage for my 65th Birthday Bash, final packing for the Big Move and the finalizing of the sale of the Oromocto house.  And for the past week, been busy trying to get things set up and organized in the camper at the same time as operating the AirBNB, while dragging my butt in the heat and dealing with a summer cold. Trying to get back on track with the blog now that Terry has finally been able to start his part of the build.  Slow process as I have to get photos from our phones onto the laptop to upload to the blog.  So, sometimes photos may get added later. Once the cement exterior walls were up for the basement, the plumber arrived to do the rough-ins for the basement bathroom as well as sump pump and septic system. Day 3 - Cement

 Construction crew arrived just as we were leaving to head back to Oromocto.  And then we past the cement on the highway. Thanks to the kindness of our neighbour, Steve, we have pictures of the cement in place.

Day 2 - Footings

 After appearing in the morning to finish installing the drainage pipe, a work crew arrived in the afternoon to work on the footings.   They know what they're doing - in the heat and sun they do their work efficiently, pack up and move on to their next location.  Appparently they have about 3 other jobs in the area.  A crew is supposed to arrive tomorrow (Thursday June 13) to work on framing in preparation of pouring the cement (on Friday?).  Structure should be ready to turn over to Terry to start working on floors and walls by the end of June, early July.  Things are moving rapidly after the late start.

Start of The Big Dig

 The BIG day finally arrived: June 11, 2024! Unfortunately, we were not on site when the machinery rolled in just before 9 am.  However, neighbours kept us informed.  We did arrive in the evening and explored the day's work while there was still light. The work crew returned the following morning to finish burying the water drainage pipe.  Apparently, they hadn't brought enough with them to reach the cliff. Not sure when they will be returning to continue doing the foundation.  But at least its a start.   Once the cement is poured, it needs to settle, etc before Terry can start building the floors, walls, roof, etc. Not that Terry is just sitting back and waiting his turn.  He continues to be busy moving items from the Oromocto house to the storage container on the Cape Tormentine property.  He also is busy finding and buying items for the house:  jetted tub (Kijii purchase) and several of the windows and doors from Atlantic Windows clea...

Welcome to Our CapeHouse Adventure

Welcome to the house building adventure of Terry Legere and Linda Allen. As we have been approaching our golden years, we decided that we did indeed want to spend our senior years on our property in Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick.  Although Terry has a large garage to serve for his hobbies of jukebox restoration, wood working and '57 Chevy restoration, the small 2 bedroom winterized cottage would not be big enough to accommodate Linda's genealogy and crafts hobbies.  So the decision was made to build a house and continue to rent out the cottage. After several years of working on house plans, we hired a draftsman in 2023 to draw up official plans to be submitted to the NB government for a building permit.  We received them a months later, but too late in the year to start the process for a permit as ground would need to be broken within a certain period of time (ie 6 months).  So we waited until late winter/early spring.
